We usually associate lemons with something that doesn’t work well.  But, are a great all natural cleaning product for many tough to clean areas of your home.  Lemons are inexpensive, chemical free and smell great.  Here are a few ways you can clean with lemons for a natural cleaning alternative.

  • In the Bathroom:Lemons do a great job removing tough soap scum in tubs and showers.  Just cut a lemon in half and scrub all surfaces with the cut area.  Add some salt for more abrasive scrubbing, especially on stubborn glass doors for a no-scratch shine.  While you’re there, rub lemons over the brass or chrome taps.  Not only will it shine up your fixtures, but lemon juice also removes discoloration spots that hard water leaves behind.
  • In the kitchen:Use lemons in the kitchen to scrub and disinfect wooden cutting boards.  Add some salt to a sliced lemon to polish and shine copper pots.
  • When you’re finished scrubbing:Once everything has been scrubbed and shined, don’t thrown those lemon halves away.  A sliced lemon in the fridge can absorb odors for up to one week. If you have a garbage disposal in your sink, drop the used lemons and a few ice cubes down the disposal to clean blades and deodorize the drain.
