Four simple steps to clean your scorched iron:
1. Place an old cotton bath towel on the ironing board – the towel should be disposable, because the build-up and film on the iron will transfer to the towel, along with ground in salt.
2. Spread approximately 2 tablespoons of COARSE salt onto the towel. Larger grained salt has more surface area, so we suggest kosher salt or sea salt in order to more effectively scrub the soleplate clean.
3. Set iron on the highest setting, with steam setting to off. Be sure to allow it to heat up completely.
4. Iron the salty surface, pressing lightly. The dirt and grime will stick to the salt, leaving the surface sparkling clean. Pass over the towel enough times to remove any residue from the iron and you are set.
